Salish I Research Project, (1997)
Teachers' Pedagogical Philosophy Interview
Questions

This study was conducted by a nine-university collaborative, the Salish I Research Project, exploring science teachers’ beliefs and actions with regard to inquiry instruction. Science education reform efforts require that students learn science via inquiry.
These are the questions that were asked of the teachers.

  1. How do you decide what to teach and what not to teach?

  2. How do you decide when to move from one concept to another?

  3. What learning in your classroom do you think will be valuable to your students outside the learning environment?

  4. Are there any things at the local/school/state levels that influence the way you teach?  What are some examples of this?

  5. In what ways do you manipulate the educational environment to maximize student understanding?

  6. What are some of the things you believe your students value most about their educational experience in your classroom?  When they leave here, they say "I really like (his/her) class because          ."

  7. How do you accommodate students with specials needs in your classroom?

  8. When did you realize you were becoming a good teacher, understanding that you were having a positive effect on your students and satisfied that you were doing the right thing?

  9. In reference to the teaching model or teaching package that you have developed...if you had to divide that up into a pie chart, how much of that chart would come from undergraduate training, graduate training, your on-the-job experience, or anything else that you can think of?

  10. How do you define technology?
